Dress Your Best in a Polar Vortex

With the freezing weather upon us midwesterners, it is time to layer up and bundle up. Layering for warmth can be a major struggle, not because it is difficult to layer, but because it is difficult to not feel like the Michelin Tire Man. Scratch that, it is hard to escape feeling like a jumbo size marshmallow or an overstuffed, Chipotle burrito.

But if you have the right layering techniques, you can dress your best in any polar vortex.

The first step is to make sure you are wearing long boots. The longer the boots, the warmer you are going to be.

With these brown +Steve Madden boots, or any long boots, you can pair them with long socks or leg warmers for extra warmth.
I paired my +Hunter Boots socks with my black, Chooka rain boots. These socks are comfortable, affordable and warm. If you plan on buying hunter boots, think twice. You can save your money, by buying a generic brand of rain boots—that work just the same—and buy the socks. The Hunter socks are $30, and Chooka boots are a little more than that. If those prices do not sell you, I do not know what will.

Now pay attention closely, this is where the anti-burrito tips come in. If you want to look chic and warm, pair a vest with your favorite sweater. My vest is by Laura Scott, and you can find them at +Sears  for $15. To finish off the look, add a pair of stylish gloves.  +Urban Outfitters  is a great place to look for unique and stylish gloves.

For additional warmth, add an infinity scarf. Make sure not to double loop it, because the collar on the vest is already prominent.
Warning: Double looping may cause you to turn into a burrito, and we do not want that.

We all love our leather jackets, but during the winter they are not an option. They simply are not warm enough (blah blah blah). We always tell ourselves this, but you can do it. Amanda has come to the rescue to show you the right way to wear them.
Remember that comfy sweater from before? Throw that on, put a flannel over it, and your leather jacket is now an option. You can even add a beanie to accomplish a grungy look.
Now there is no reason your leather jacket should be hidden away in your closet.

Once you follow these simple techniques, 99.9% of the time you will not look like that overstuffed burrito. The other .1% are the days, where it is simply too cold to attempt to look chic. But it is important to not let your wardrobe get sucked in winter's dull and dreary black hole. Just because the warm weather has given up, does not mean your outfits should too. When we look good, we feel good, and we can kick winter's butt right out the door when we stop using it as an excuse.

It has been a little while since I have posted, and since then a lot has changed. I have turned 20 and have made updates to my wardrobe. But the real question is: who doesn't love to update their closet, when it means you can go shopping?

I decided to chop my hair once again, and I love how edgy it feels (Hair done by +Kimberly Boshold ).
I have added major leather pieces to my wardrobe, including jackets, pants and shoes. Having one article of clothing (usually a leather jacket), is a necessity to have in your closet. But this season leather/pleather is seen in dresses, joggers, booties, head wraps, skirts, sneakers, blouses... I think you get the point that the 80s & 90s are back.  Except this time we have our own twist to it and I LOVE it. The edginess is getting real here in 2014.

This fall/winter season has/will be all about reinventing myself stylistically.
How will you reinvent yourself?

Let's Get Lost Together

This is one of my favorite outfits so far this summer simply because it's me. Being able to express myself through my outfits is the best feeling, and when I can put together an outfit that makes me feel good... the photo shoots get FUN. I paired my favorite shorts from aero with a fun crop top from +Forever 21 .  Which by the way, out of all the shorts I have ever worn, hands down  +Aeropostale has THE best shorts. They are super comfy and fit amazing. I wanted to look a little B.A, so I had to add some +Steve Madden troopas! Also I have been going crazy for Stone Rush Jewelry for a while now. If you love some boho accessories check them out.

April showers bring May flowers

Since Easter is tomorrow,  I decided to do a spring-inspired outfit for the occasion.  This outfit is great since you can move around easily, be playful and work those egg hunts. (Much easier than worrying about wearing a dress or skirt.) Throw on a springy romper, and you are set to go for the day's festivities. I also added a bold, flower necklace, to add some color and life to the romper. The links for the items and where you can find them are down below. I hope you all enjoy your weekend. Happy Easter!

Spring Weather!

The weather this weekend has been amazing over here in Chicago! It is actually feeling like spring with a hint of summer. The fact that we got to un-hibernate our shorts, skirts, crop tops
and sandals felt amazing. So here is my outfit of the day, or my go-to style for this beautiful weekend.

If you haven't checked out Jeffery Campbell's FESTIVALÉ styles in for the spring, go check it out now! I think I have fallen head over heels for this line. (No pun intended.) They perfectly describe what styles will be worn at festivals this spring/summer. I will definitely be styling my festival outfits around these amazing shoes! :)
I have shown a few of my favorites here. Link to see the rest is down below.
If this doesn't get you excited for festival season I don't know what else will!

Desperately Seeking Spring

Well now that the snow has all melted over here in Illinois, we are all craving that warm, sun-kissed, summer weather. (I know my styling lately has been as well. ) I have been wanting to pull out all my shorts and tanks, but that is still out of the question! So in order to still get into the spring mood, pop some color into your outfits. Here I added a a colored top and necklace to my warmer clothing. Pair your warm jackets with a bold, colorful necklace, or even some colorful socks to peep out of your boots. Wherever you can add a hint of color, DO IT. Spring is upon us and we all want to get out of this dull winter. :) Let's get colorful.
